Balance in film (Preliminary Exercise)

Image
Balance in the film is a combination of symmetrical and asymmetrical balance. When used properly it draws attention to the subject. In the shot from Spiderman, No Way Home blocking was used to draw attention to the subject Peter by blocking the face and expressions of the 2 other people in the room. I used asymmetry on my subject to make him have an odd presence in the scene when compared to the symmetrical balance created by the props. The awkward position of the subject is  to create a comedic tone when taking into account his environment

Asymmetrical Balance in Film (Preliminary Exercise)

Asymmetrical balance is used to create a sense of emptiness in a shot. distinct'sts used in the scene from Avengers Endgame to create a space of emptiness and distinguish the two characters from the feeling of emptiness. It was used in my shot to create a sense of humor. The off focus camera gives The subject that is focused on a sense of power and disappointment toward the subject in the brown jacket.

Composition in Film (Preliminary Exercise)

In the interrogation scene from Spiderman, No Way Home the rule of thirds is established to keep Peter Parker on one side while leaving the office on the other. It's established through the blinds in the background. In my photo, the rule of thirds is used to separate the subjects via the railing. It's called the interview because the subject in the middle is getting interviewed and has a mic in his face and is shown to be different by the separation of the railing. The rule of thirds allows for two subjects two have a comedic contrast like the stiff person on the right in contrast to the lost person on the left.

It's important for directing the audience's attention.               In this preliminary exercise, we had to research how a film used composition and create our own image using the same type of composition. In total, we did 10 across all types of composition. I'm showing this one because its best shows how composition is used to draw attention to a subject. In the shot from the movie Get Out, the actor is the only subject focused on in the frame. The purpose of this was to direct all attention to his facial expression to let the audience know that they should be focused and shocked. The same concept is applied to my shot. In my shot, the subject (me) is on the phone and has a confused expression. This is to let the audience know that they sh...
