Idea for the opening

As of now, the midterm is finished. Now my group and I are planning ideas for the 2-minute opening. We plan on doing an opening with action and comedic dialogue like in Spider-Man. Spider-Man is a film we researched often in several assignments. That was because we were inspired by the Tom Holland movies and what to create something similar. The only issue we're having trouble with is where can we record and how we will make costumes that will fit the genre.

Genre Case Study: Camerawork Storyboard Analysis (Preliminary Exercise)

For section 5 we had to identify the different types of camera shot sizes, framings, and angles. This strengthens our ability to identify the decisions of media industries to use different movements and angles for different scenes.

Genre Case Study: How do you create meaning in the film using the technical codes? (Preliminary Exercise)

Image
This section includes 3 parts of an analysis of how different technical codes produced meaning in the film. This part is on how camerawork impacted the movie. For camerawork, we analyzed shot sizes, camera angle, camera movement, and camera framing. The camerawork establishes how important the subject or the subjects in a frame are, and is also used to foreshadow or establishes how significant something will be.          Editing was another code used to establish two important conventions. The conventions were On-Screen Text and transitions. The purpose of on-screen text is to establish significance to the audience, continuity, and give more information. Transitions were also used to smoothly connect one scene to another. This allows the movie to switch points of focus without breaking away from the action.          The last thing used to give the shots more meaning was sounds. The main two used w...

Genre Case Study: Symbolic codes in film (Preliminary Exercise)

Part 3 of the Midterm was analyzing the mise en scene of the movie. To do this we took parts of the movie expressing the center type of shots or mise en scene elements and broke them down. The two images show the parts of section 3 I did. Even though I did only one part of the mise en scene break down, upon reviewing the other parts before submitting I learned how with every shot of the movie there was always meaning in it. From a deep analysis of this entire project, I learned that a good movie makes sure every scene has a purpose. This will be helpful since we will begin the pre-production of our two-minute into within the next few months.

Genre Case Study: Film Representation: Message and audience (Preliminary Exercise)

Image
For section 2 of the midterm, we were tasked with answering questions about the intended messages and audience of the film. The group worked together on this part. For questions that needed research, my groupmate Nicholas who was primarily in charge of the section would, research and explain what he found. From that information, we collaborated on what we thought the best answer was and he documented it. The research gave the group a better understanding of how movie use characters and conventions to give the message to their audience

Genre Case Study: General information (Preliminary Exercise)

Image
This is the first section of my group's midterm project. Section one contains all background research done on the film. The Film we chose to  analyze was Black Widow (2021). We chose Black widow because it is one of the most recent Marvel movies to have been released. Marvel's movies in recent years have constantly challenged the convention of movies in a variety of creative and innovative ways. We agreed that we should watch a recent Marvel movie so that when we finished researching we could better understand what conventions were broken and how conventions bettered the movie.          For this section, I was in charge of part 3. Part 3 was researching the main actors and describing their roles. From this, I used Wikipedia to research the actors and used the information to elaborate on the role's importance to the story and their relations to other main characters. This resulted in me researching the roles of 5 chara...

Establishing my Mid-Term groups

Image
On December 13th we began to form our groups for the midterm. For the midterm I'm going to work with Tijianni Clarke, Dillon Wilson, and Nicolas Davila. I've worked with these individuals before and know that share the same work ethic as me and also love actions and comedy's as much as me, We plan on starting our research before the mid term as the "Film Analysis Booklet". Which should be finished in the next few days

What is mise en scene? (Preliminary Exercise)

Image
In class on 11/30, we watched this video from Studio Binder . The video gives a detailed description of what mise en scene is. It breaks down its origin from definition to examples. They begin by saying that it originated from the French critic Andre Bazin. They describe mise en scene as the concept of storytelling within one signal image. Throughout the video, it uses several examples that break down who has power and what is focused. It explains how the mise en scene is limited to sight but also sound design and music and finally, everything within a frame has an importance

Mise en scene (Preliminary Exercise)

Image
During class on 11/30, we took notes on what mise en scene and why it is used, and how it is used by directors to make films and scenes. Mise en scene is why every element, color, object, prop, clothing, etc. is used to make a scene. It is one way of storytelling, the other being montage. Mise en scene is used by directors so that everything in the frame adds to the tone or mood of the film.     This lesson taught us how to use blocking. Blocking is when  actors stand on a set and how they move around over the course of filming, or as some would say choreography. Its important in creating tone and mode for each scene. It shows what is important and what isn't focused on. Blocking and mise en scene are two of the most important part of the movie no matter what scene or part of the movie is playing.
