Mise en scene (Preliminary Exercise)

During class on 11/30, we took notes on what mise en scene and why it is used, and how it is used by directors to make films and scenes. Mise en scene is why every element, color, object, prop, clothing, etc. is used to make a scene. It is one way of storytelling, the other being montage. Mise en scene is used by directors so that everything in the frame adds to the tone or mood of the film.

This lesson taught us how to use blocking. Blocking is when actors stand on a set and how they move around over the course of filming, or as some would say choreography. Its important in creating tone and mode for each scene. It shows what is important and what isn't focused on. Blocking and mise en scene are two of the most important part of the movie no matter what scene or part of the movie is playing.
