Planning the film opening outline (pre production)

Image
Before my team and I start to draft the movie, we're going to plan out what we need to do. We want our crew to appeal to the audience and since we're teens we decided that's going to be the audience. To connect to the audience, the main character Spence is going to be a person trying to be popular but he has a twist. The twist is that he is a criminal. We're gonna make the characters engage in a comedic chase scene because our target audience is teens and would have seen a similar type of scene in cartoons like Tom and Jerry. The last thing we did was establish who in the group is assigned to each role, since this we plan on adding more actors with people outside our group.

Pre-production of our movie

Image
Today 3/28/22 my team and I are officially starting our pre-production phase. Were planning on what to do with our movie right now and how to do it. We going to break up the planning into sections. The sections will be general information on the film, film development, and the introduction of the critical reflection and its questions. We finally finished our company's icon, we agreed that a lighting bolt was the best symbol to represent power so we found a template and changed its colors, and added text and a vortex around the lighting bolt to make it unique.

First outline of the script (Pre Production)

Image
Prior to putting all pre-production information into a word document, we drafted our first script. From researching sound in film I understand how important a script is in seeing how the story will flow. Communication is important in progressing the story. From our script, we made sure that dialogue between Spence Spencer (Main character) and Nicholas Wilson (character) would progress the plot by establishing a reason for Spence to be wanted by Barry Doncic (Security). When writing the script we made sure to follow the conventions of script drafting. For this, we mention any changes to the scene, what sound effects will add, and digestible sounds like dialogue and the soundtrack.

Original Draft of Movie (pre production)

Our original movie idea               For the two-minute opening, my team and I planned on doing a movie in the hero/comedy genre. We have decided to change this due to a lack of props, and equipment. and locations that would give an action effect. Despite researching comedy, hero films all year were changing our movie's type of action in our film to a chase sequence. This way it's more effective and still goes with the research conducted this year just to a lesser extent.

Logo production (Pre-Production)

Image
This is the final design of our production company. The logo was designed off the name of the company. Our company's name was power productions. To best symbolize the power we choose to go with a lightning bolt. The yellow is used to symbolize energy and the black was a nice contrast to yellow.

Editing and Sound on The Giver. (Research)

Image
Editing and sound are used in films to create the tone/mood and the visual effects to make scenes flow better. From this chart I learned different from of editing most notably, how to transition. Our cuts from our draft are very simplistic and doesn't give any impact in-between scenes. The source also gave some insight on what we could do with sound to make it more impactful. We cant use the effects shown in The Giver because it doesn't fit in with our genre. For example the movie is recorded in black and white so the message that no one is different is expressed. Doing that in a comedy film would take away the bright light that represents the joyful mode the movie is supposed to have.
